Enjoy a soothing soakThe Akakura Central Hotel's onsen, or hot springs, use completely natural water from a source high on Mt. Myoko. The water has long been known for their healing qualities, neuralgia, muscle and joint pain and skin ailments. And best of all, the onsen are open 24 hours a day—any time you need a soothing, warming break. Some hints for getting the most out of the onsen experience
Akakura Onsen was first established in 1816, in a time when Japan was almost completely closed off to the outside world. It has since become popular not only among Japanese, but by guests from around the world as well. Akakura is also located at approximately 780 meters (2,500 feet) above sea level, on the slopes of Mt. Myoko, providing excellent views and beautiful mountain scenery. In winter, the high snow walls and flowing steam from the onsen waters make for a sight unlike anything you'll find anywhere else.
